mmmmm Ribs!!

My friend Jesse and I wanted to make homemade ribs so that's what we did. We used baby back ribs and they came out ridiculously delicious. First, I made a spice rub of garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper, sugar, paprika, and ground mustard. Rub liberally on the ribs. Then i added some soy sauce and Captain Morgan to the rub and massaged the liquid into the meat. For roasting the ribs, I lined a cookie sheet with foil and laid a bed of mirepoix, which is onions, carrots, and celery. I put the ribs on top of the mirepoix and roasted the ribs for an hour at 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Every twenty minutes I added sugar to the ribs and let it caramelize. This is what they looked like after 20, 40, and 60 minutes.

This is 20 minutes

This is 40 minutes

This 60 minutes.

For the Sauce, We used Sweet Baby Ray's Hickory and Brown Sugar BBQ sauce and doctored it up. We added some Captain Morgan, sesame oil, honey, and sriracha sauce. I applied the sauce after an hour of cooking every 15 minutes. After an hour of cooking I turned the temperature up to 415 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes. Then the for next thirty minutes I upped the temperature to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. This is what the ribs looked like after 2 hours of cooking and they should be done in that time.

For side dishes, we made a simple baked sweet potato not pictured, and steamed green beans with sesame oil, toasted sesame seeds, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

This was a great meal and making ribs might seem complicated, but its really easy and delicious. This takes approximately 2 hours of cooking time and about 20  minutes of prep time. If you are dedicated to make ribs go for it. If you wanna eat ribs but not cook them well then this recipe is not for you. Enjoy!
